School Speech Questionnaire

Developed by R. Lindsey Bergman and colleagues, the School Speech Questionnaire (SSQ) is an eight-item teacher-report measure. Teachers are asked to rate how frequently a target student engaged in various speaking behaviors and other forms of communication in the classroom setting over the previous month, using a four-point scale (always, often, seldom, and never). Like on the Selective Mutism Questionnaire, higher SSQ scores represent more speech whereas lower scores are reflective of less speaking and potentially more severe selective mutism.
