Denise Kinser, MSW, LCSW
Selective Mutism of the Carolinas
Denise Kinser is a licensed clinical social worker and the founder of Selective Mutism of the Carolinas, a private practice that treats children and adolescents in North and South Carolina. Her practice focuses primarily on Selective Mutism and Social Anxiety Disorder.
Denise’s education includes her bachelor of psychology degree from Susquehanna University and masters of social work from UNC Chapel Hill. Her work focuses on providing thorough diagnosis and comprehensive, individualized treatment. Denise believes it is crucial that parents are provided with the knowledge and tools to help their child succeed. Denise also collaborates with teachers, schools and other organizations.
Denise is the mother of a child who was once diagnosed with SM. Although a licensed therapist herself, she was initially perplexed by this little known condition and dismayed at the lack of awareness of pediatricians, speech therapists and mental health therapists. Denise advocated extensively for her child and traveled out of state to receive evidence-based treatment, which was life changing for her family. It is Denise’s passion to educate, empower and assist other families on their journey with SM. Denise currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Selective Mutism Association.
