Easterseals
Alison Voyer is a licensed clinical social worker at a community mental health center in Raleigh, NC and has 10 years experience in working with a variety of presentations and ages. Alison began treating her first young client with selective mutism 5 years ago, sparking an interest and love of working with this population.
Through trainings, individual study and peer consultation, Alison has developed the skill set needed to work with this group of young people. She evaluates each child holistically, using age, development, circumstances, and individual differences to better understand the presentation of selective mutism and develop a treatment plan. This plan involves individual work with the youth as well as work with the parents to foster development of strategies and tools to use at home and in the community. Alison will also collaborate with teachers and other professionals to further progress. Growth, change, and a full life are Alison’s goals for her clients. She finds it enormously gratifying to watch them make steady progress and to help their parents advocate for needed resources.
Alison stays current with best practices, consulting other professionals for the benefit of her clients, and stays abreast of research and promising new approaches with continual self-education. She also teaches and supervises professionals new to the field to help them build their therapeutic skills.
Alison holds certifications in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) and Modular Approach to Therapy for Children with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma or Conduct Problems (MATCH). She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Clemson University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Georgia with a concentration in clinical social work.
Alison strives to put clients of all ages at ease and build a warm working relationship with a focus on genuine, gentle engagement and a helpful dose of fun.
