Audrey E. Boggs, PsyD

Dr. Audrey E. Boggs is pleased to return to the SMA Board of Directors in 2022 after being one of the organization’s earliest board members between 2005-2008. Dr. Boggs first got involved with SMA (formerly, Selective Mutism Group ~ Child Anxiety Network) in 2002 when she traveled to Pennsylvania for the second annual conference at which she presented her story of overcoming selective mutism beginning at the age of 15. At the time, Dr. Boggs was in graduate school and just beginning her career as a psychologist. For this and other contributions to the organization, she was later awarded lifetime professional membership of the Selective Mutism Association.

Dr. Boggs has dedicated over 15 years to serving the mental health treatment needs of children, adolescents, young adults and families. She holds a Doctor of Psychology degree with an emphasis in child and family practice. Dr. Boggs specializes in the assessment and treatment of anxiety conditions, including social anxiety and selective mutism, which was the subject of her doctoral dissertation at Alliant International University, California School of Professional Psychology, San Francisco.

She completed an APA-accredited, pre-doctoral internship at Child & Family Guidance Center in Northridge, CA which solidified her training and experience in family systems theory and psychological assessment. She completed her postdoctoral residency at St. John’sHealth Center in Santa Monica, CA where she received specialized training in providing clinical supervision. Additionally, she completed a postgraduate fellowship in infant-parent mental health (IPMH) at University of Massachusetts, Boston. Dr. Boggs is  trained to work with the youngest of patients, ages 0-5 years, and their caregivers, helping them to develop healthy infant-parent attachment, achieve developmental milestones, and overcome parenting challenges.

As a California licensed psychologist, Dr. Boggs has experience as a clinician, supervisor and manager at various school and community mental health agencies in both San Francisco and Los Angeles areas. She currently practices in Los Angeles and Ventura counties and is able to provide treatment remotely to those residing outside of the area. Dr. Boggs incorporates empirically validated treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, structural family therapy, developmental theories and other effective approaches in assessing and treating each patient’s condition. Dr. Boggs ensures that treatment success extends beyond the office to all settings including the home, school, and community.
