Thriving Minds Behavioral Health

Dr. Schmitt specializes in the assessment and treatment of a variety of emotional and behavioral concerns in children and adolescents. However, Selective Mutism (SM) quickly became a passion of hers since working with her first SM family in 2015. Known for her warm and friendly approach, Dr. Schmitt is dedicated to helping children with SM build bravery and confidence by applying therapeutic approaches rooted in the latest research, while tailoring treatment to each person with whom she works. Dr. Schmitt offers both weekly outpatient therapy (in-person or telehealth), and intensive treatment in schools across the country (i.e., travels to the child’s school, spends 4-5 hours per day there for several concurrent days). Dr. Schmitt has extensive experience in behavioral consultation, working closely with school-based professionals, caseworkers, and other mental health providers to provide education and meet a child’s needs. She also provides SM training and supervision to the staff at Thriving Minds Behavioral Health (MI).

With a background in both school and clinical psychology, Dr. Schmitt is well-equipped and eager to help children with SM succeed across multiple settings. She is authorized to practice in over 40 states, both in-person and telehealth, through the PSYPACT interstate compact.
