SUMMARY:Virtual Parent-Child Interaction Therapy for Selective Mutism (PCIT-SM) Training for Professionals
DESCRIPTION:Target Audience: This course is intended for therapists and allied health professionals licensed for independent practice\, or accruing hours towards licensure in some cases. If you are not already certified in the traditional PCIT protocol for disruptive behavior by PCIT International\, you will also need to complete the free 10-hrs online course from the UC Davis website and send us the PDF of your completion certificate any time before our course begins. You don’t need to complete this short course before registering. \n\n\n\nLocation: Virtual \n\n\n\nDescription: \n\n\n\nParent-Child Interaction Therapy for Selective Mutism (PCIT-SM) is a research-tested behavioral therapy that improves verbal and non-verbal participation and reduces parental over-accommodation. Research in randomized trial shows that the outcomes are impressive and the gains persist and generalize to real world settings Dr. Kurtz is the developer of the PCIT-SM protocol and is certified by PCIT International as a PCIT Global Trainer. He provides training virtually\, and both at the NYC flagship offices of Kurtz Psychology Consulting PC as well as onsite at agencies to suit their scheduling needs. Training is remote with 16 hours of live\, participatory synchronous learning\, accompanied by some asynchronous learning\, and includes the required monthly case consultation calls to help with your implementation with fidelity and to earn PCIT-SM certification. \n\n\n\nThe treatment has many interesting and unique characteristics including the fact that the parent and child are coached live – in real time – to shape new interaction patterns. The motto of Kurtz Psychology Consulting PC is changing interactions one at a time and no treatment captures this process better than PCIT and PCIT-SM. In the office\, we use a one-way mirror to coach parents with a wireless earpiece – sometimes called a “bug-in-the-ear.” (The one-way mirror is preferred but not required in all PCIT settings.) On the internet\, we help families with live coaching via their own tablets\, laptops\, or phones. \n\n\n\nFor More Information: \n\n\n\ninfo@kurtzpsychology.com or (212) 658-0110 ext. 124

SUMMARY:Webinar: Before the Talking Happens: Strategies for Increasing Nonverbal Engagement
DESCRIPTION:Live Webinar with Q & A! General registration is free! \n\n\n\nSpeakers:Rachel Busman\, PsyD\, ABPP \n\n\n\nThis program is intended for behavioral health professionals\, including Psychologists\, Social Workers\, Counselors\, and MFT’s however caregivers are welcome! \n\n\n\nThis webinar has been approved for 1 CE credit. For those seeking CE credit\, registration is $20. \n\n\n\nFor more information and to register\, click here: \n\n\n\nhttps://app.ce-go.com/before-the-talking-happens-strategies-for-increasing-nonverbal-engagement-03-10-2023-242 \n\n\n\nMany webinars and training for Selective Mutism focus on strategies to increase speaking in the classroom and other social settings. Especially when a child is in school and not yet verbal\, there can be a steady stream of questions asked to the child\, resulting in either no response or a nonverbal response (nodding\, pointing). Even when adults are asking the child well-formed questions or using effective prompts for speech\, the child may not yet be able to respond. At times\, having the ability to do a proper fade in to facilitate speech may not be possible for a variety of reasons. Thus educators\, school psychologists\, counselors\, speech/language pathologists and others may be perplexed in terms of how to engage the child in the most effective way. In this webinar\, Dr Busman will specifically talk about ways to increase nonverbal interaction without negatively reinforcing that the child is not yet talking. She will offer the attendee very specific strategies and tips that can increase the child’s participation. Dr Busman will also discuss how to use shaping strategies to promote child engagement.  \n\n\n\nAfter attending this session\, participant will be able to: \n\n\n\n\nDescribe two skills used to build a child’s comfort\n\n\n\nState how to prompt for a nonverbal response without reinforcing non speaking \n\n\n\nDescribe the process for shaping sounds to words \n\n\n\nExplain how to use SM assessment measures to monitor progress throughout treatment\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker: \n\n\n\nRachel Busman\, PsyD\, ABPP \n\n\n\nDr. Rachel Busman is a clinical psychologist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders in children and adolescents. She is the Senior Director of the Child & Adolescent Anxiety & Related Disorders Program at Cognitive Behavioral Consultants (CBC)\, where she runs Voices Rising\, an intensive group-based program for children with SM. Prior to joining CBC\, she ran Brave Buddies\, an internationally recognized SM program at the Child Mind Institute. She has extensive experience providing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to children\, teenagers\, and young adults struggling with psychiatric disorders\, school difficulties\, and behavioral problems. Dr. Busman is certified in Parent Child Interaction Therapy for SM (PCIT-SM) and is an interagency trainer. She is the past president of the SMA and continues to actively serve on the board. \n\n\n\nThis webinar is brought to you by the Selective Mutism Association and was made possible by a generous grant from the Gordon and Marilyn Macklin Foundation\, Inc.
