SUMMARY:Resilience Camp Ages 3 to 9 in Layton\, UT
DESCRIPTION:Who is hosting: Resilience Individual & Family Counseling \n\n\n\nTarget audience: SM kids ages 3-9  \n\n\n\nLocation (or if it is virtual): Layton UT  \n\n\n\nDates: June 10-14\, fade in sessions June 8 and 9 \n\n\n\nTimes and Time Zone: MST time zone\, camp is from 9-1 during the week with parent trainings some evenings \n\n\n\nResilience Camp is an intensive outpatient program designed to help children with SM learn resilience and gain confidence in their speaking abilities.  The program is designed to simulate a classroom setting with small groups of peers. The children attend the day camp and are gradually exposed to typical situations (ordering food at a restaurant\, asking/answering questions in a group\, playing games with peers etc.) in a safe and supportive environment that rewards them for their brave words and hard work. Each child is paired up with a trained brave-talking mentor. Parents receive education and support about how they can best help their child move forward. DESCRIPTION:CommuniCamp™ is 3+ Day program treating Selective Mutism\, Social Anxiety\, and extreme shyness by using Social Communication Anxiety Treatment® (S-CAT®)\, the evidence-based treatment approach created by world-renowned Selective Mutism expert\, Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum with over 30 years’ experience.  \n\n\n\nCommuniCamp™ consists of two concurrent programs:  \n\n\n\n1) Intensive Group Treatment for children and teens (3-17+ years old)  \n\n\n\nOur professionally trained counselors and lead clinicians will work directly with campers to instill social confidence\, increase communication\, and facilitate the learning of coping skills necessary for school\, the real world\, and home. SUMMARY:Selective Mutism Training Institute for Caregivers 2024 Online
DESCRIPTION:The Selective Mutism Training Institute for Caregivers (SMTI-Caregivers) is an online 2 day training designed for caregivers of children ages 3 – 17 diagnosed with selective mutism. This workshop is skills-based with the goal of increasing caregiver competence in applying treatment strategies with their child who has SM. \n\n\n\nCost: $250.00 – $450.00 \n\n\n\nRegister \n\n\n\nThe Selective Mutism Training Institute for Caregivers (SMTI-Caregivers) is an in-depth 2-day training course for caregivers of children/youth (ages 3 – 17) diagnosed with selective mutism (SM). The workshop is intensive and skills-based with the goal of increasing caregiver competence in utilizing empirically-supported treatment strategies for SM. We maintain a low instructor-to-participant ratio to ensure adequate time for modeling and video role-play of the skills. Registration will be capped at 30 participants. \n\n\n\nThis is a unique opportunity for caregivers of children with selective mutism to learn cutting-edge\, innovative techniques to effectively address SM. Small group\, video consultation with the course instructors following the 2-day training is included in the cost. This will allow participants to further apply the skills in their own unique way. Please note this consultation does not provide individualized treatment. \n\n\n\nThis course is taught by leading experts\, researchers\, and authors in the field of Selective Mutism:  \n\n\n\nBrittany Bice-Urbach\, Ph.D.  \n\n\n\nDr. Bice-Urbach is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin and has been working as a clinical psychologist at the Child Development Center\, a developmental clinic through Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin\, in the School Performance Program. She completed her graduate training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School Psychology Program\, her internship at Illinois State University’s Psychological Services Center\, and her Post-Doctoral fellowship at Connections Day School\, a therapeutic day school in Illinois. Dr. Bice-Urbach has a specialty in best practices in providing telebehavioral health services. She was involved with a team of providers in developing training materials for the recent and rapid transition to telebehavioral health at Children’s Wisconsin in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and has contributed a book chapter regarding practical considerations in providing teleconsultation services. Dr. Bice-Urbach also has a clinical specialty in treating children and adolescents with anxiety disorders through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with a primary focus on treating children with Selective Mutism. At the Child Development Center\, she has been offering assessment\, individual therapy\, and family/school consultation and training to support children with Selective Mutism. She has participated in the Selective Mutism Training Institute and given several national presentations at the National Association for School Psychologists Annual Convention on the topic of addressing symptoms of Selective Mutism in a school setting. She also has prioritized trainings for medical facilities and pediatricians on detecting symptoms of Selective Mutism and supporting children and their families through the journey in finding appropriate resources. Dr. Bice-Urbach is excited to be joining the board of SMA and collaborating to continue to increase awareness and access to evidence-based resources on SM for children\, families\, and treating professionals. \n\n\n\nJami Furr\, Ph.D. \n\n\n\nDr. Jami Furr is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Senior Psychologist in the Mental Health Interventions and Technology Program\, and Developer of the Selective Mutism Program at Florida International University Center for Children and Families. She is the President of the Selective Mutism Association and has served on their Board of Directors for the last 3 years. She has expertise in cognitive behavioral treatments of childhood selective mutism and anxiety\, and preschool mental health\, and serves as a trainer and consultant on the largest PCORI-funded project on anxiety in youth. She fostered the first randomized controlled trial on an intensive group behavioral treatment for youth with selective mutism\, recently published in Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology. Her selective mutism program has been featured in the media\, including The New York Times. She was an inaugural Associate Editor for Evidence Based Practice in Child and Adolescent Mental Health for 3 years. Prior to joining FIU\, she served as Clinical Director of the Child Program at the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders of Boston University\, where she began their Selective Mutism Program. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Temple University\, completed her clinical internship in the Child Track at the NYU-Bellevue Clinical Psychology Internship Program and NYU Child Study Center\, and finished her training in a NIH-funded Postdoctoral Fellowship at the NYU Child Study Center. \n\n\n\nRachel A. Merson\, Psy.D. \n\n\n\nRachel Merson\, Psy.D. is the Clinical Director of the Child and Adolescent Fear and Anxiety Treatment Program at the Boston University Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders (Child CARD). Dr. Merson has extensive experience providing evidence-based treatment to children and adolescents with a range of anxiety disorders and co-occurring emotional and behavioral concerns. As Director of Child CARD’s Selective Mutism Program\, she oversees Brave Bunch\, Child CARD’s intensive group treatment program for young children with SM. In addition\, Dr. Merson is actively involved in providing supervision and training to Child CARD graduate students and trainees. She frequently conducts workshops with schools and community agencies on selective mutism and other topics related to child anxiety. Dr. Merson completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia where she majored in Psychology and graduated with High Distinction. She went on to earn her Masters and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) at Rutgers University. Dr. Merson completed a one-year\, APA-approved internship at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Boston\, Massachusetts.. \n\n\n\n Program Objectives – Participants will be able to \n\n\n\n\nDescribe ways in which SM develops and appropriate timing for medical consultation\n\n\n\nState empirically-supported behavioral and cognitive treatment strategies\, including PCIT-SM (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy for Selective Mutism) techniques for SM in school\, home\, and public (social) settings\n\n\n\nList 3 strategies to effectively engage school personnel and educational staff when implementing relevant treatment strategies specific to youth with SM\n\n\n\nList various forms of caregiver self-care when supporting children with SM\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nParticipants who will benefit from this training include all caregivers of children with selective mutism. \n\n\n\nOther participants will be considered on a case-by-case basis and are encouraged to email info@selectivemutism.org with their particulars to discuss if this training is appropriate. \n\n\n\nPrior Experience: The SMTI course is primarily intended for those with beginner and intermediate knowledge of SM. \n\n\n\nCouple Information: For those interested in registering at the couple rate\, please consider the following information. The couple rate is designed for spouses/partners who are caregivers of a child with SM who live in the same houeshold. When registering as a couple\, each person must have access to a device and both people who are registered should be in separate rooms during the training to prevent feedback/technological interference. It is necessary to register both members of a couple to allow for appropriate ratios for practice. \n\n\n\nOnly those with paid registrations will be able to participate in the practice sessions which are a significant portion of the training. If family members would like to listen in the background to the teaching part of the training and NOT participate in the practice sessions\, they do not need to register. Only one entrance into the training will be allowed per individual registered. Two entrances to the training will be allowed per couple registration. \n\n\n\n*Please note that this training is offered in English. DESCRIPTION:Freedom Camp is designed for children 4-12 years of age with selective mutism. It is a wonderful opportunity for children with selective mutism to become more comfortable and increase verbalizations with peers and adults in a supportive setting. All Freedom Camp Counselors will be specifically trained in selective mutism treatment techniques. These fun-filled days will provide campers with opportunities to practice using their brave voices in individual\, small group\, and whole group settings. The camp will be led by Catherine Eckel\, Ph.D. and Dr. Agredano\, both of whom specialize in the treatment of selective mutism.

Throughout the week\, children receive support to communicate and participate in activities they would encounter on a typical school day. Our program is led by Christy Tadros\, who has several years of experience running similar programs. She was trained as a counselor in the Brave Buddies Program at the Child Mind Institute\, and worked with Dr. Steven Kurtz for several years\, co-leading the Mighty Mouth Kids Program in NYC. It will also give a comprehensive overview on treatment strategies for ADHD including support at home and school as well as medication management. \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\nRupal Upadhyay\, MD\, FAAP \n\n\n\nAssociates in Pediatrics \n\n\n\nDr. Rupal is a Board-Certified Pediatrician in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago where she lives with her husband\, 3 children\, and adorable puppy. She completed her undergraduate studies at The University of Chicago\, in Chicago\, IL. She then went on to The University of Illinois in Chicago for medical school. She did her training in General Pediatrics at Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn\, IL. Dr. Rupal is in private practice with Associates in Pediatrics and is affiliated with St. Alexius Medical Center\, Advocate Sherman Hospital\, and Northwest Community Healthcare. \n\n\n\nEleanor Ezell\, LCSW \n\n\n\nEleanor Ezell\, LCSW\, is a licensed therapist in Tennessee and is the Founder and Clinical Director at Child and Family Therapy Collective based in Nashville\, TN. She has extensive experience providing evidence-based therapy to children and young teens who struggle with selective mutism\, anxiety\, ADHD and disruptive behavior disorders\, and a wide range of developmental delays. She attended New York University for graduate training where she trained with and worked very closely with Dr. Steven Kurtz over 5 years treating children with selective mutism and related disorders. She completed a two-year Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Fellowship at The University of Mississippi Medical Center where she also \n\n\n\nBrittany Bice-Urbach\, PhD \n\n\n\nDepartment of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin \n\n\n\nDr. Bice-Urbach is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin and has been working as a clinical psychologist at the Child Development Center\, a developmental clinic through Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin\, in the School Performance Program. She completed her graduate training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School Psychology Program\, her internship at Illinois State University’s Psychological Services Center\, and her Post-Doctoral fellowship at Connections Day School\, a therapeutic day school in Illinois. SUMMARY:Mighty Mouth Kids- Sarasota Intensive Selective Mutism Camp Ages 4 to 10
DESCRIPTION:Parent and Child Psychological Services- Sarasota\, FL \n\n\n\nMMK-SRQ is a 5-day SM camp based on the MMK model developed by Dr. Steven Kurtz. Our camp director Dr. Kate Gibson was the Director of Training at Kurtz Psychology from 2019-2022. Our camp replicates a school/camp setting with a 1:1 counselor to camper ratio. Campers will practice brave talking in indoor and outdoor group play and in structured activities. They will have the opportunity to enjoy snacks and lunch with peers\, to practice raising their hand and participating\, and asking for help in a classroom setting. Campers will do 3 different presentations in front of the group over the course of the camp week\, and will ask and answer questions about the presentations. Campers will practice speaking in community settings (e.g.\, pizza lunch & shaved ice truck). They will also attend a field trip. The camp week is Monday July 22nd through Friday July 26th\, 9 AM – 2 PM. \n\n\n\nThe week prior to camp (Tuesday July 16th to Friday July 19th) is reserved for lead-in sessions to get kiddos ready for camp and will be scheduled separately for each child. \n\n\n\nParent training and live parent coaching are an integral part of our camp experience. DESCRIPTION:Does your child have difficulty speaking in school?  Talking to peers and new adults?  Communicating his or her needs?  Outside Voice Selective Mutism Day Camp can help!  Outside Voice takes place in a rented private school\, allowing your child to grow confident speaking in a real-life school environment.  Our expert counselors will help your child conquer their anxiety around speaking and will help them start to use their Outside Voice.  Our counselors include local resident family medicine physicians\, allowing your child to grow in the brave talking voice\, while also training local resident physicians in how to help children with selective mutism.

DESCRIPTION:Dates: July 9 – 25: Lead-ins booked during this time frame; Camp Week: 7/29/2024 – 8/02/2024; Parent Training 7/27/2024 9:30am-12pm & 7/29 – 8/01 12pm-1pm & 8/02 1pm-2pm \n\n\n\nTimes: Lead-ins: By appt; Camp week: 9am-3pm M-F daily; Parent Training 9:30am-12pm 7/27\, 12pm-1pm 7/29-8/01\, and 1pm-2pm 8/02  \n\n\n\nLocation: Chicago\, IL suburbs of Oak Brook (for lead-ins) and Elmhurst (for parent training and camp week); Parent Trainings are also recorded for those who can’t attend \n\n\n\nTarget Audience: Ages 4-13 (older ages considered on a case-by-case basis); Parents for parent training; 7/27 Training is open to campers’ educators as well \n\n\n\nTo register for camp: https://www.AdvancedTherapeuticSolutions.org/CampRegistration \n\n\n\nDescription: Adventure Camp (AC) provides 30 hrs (6 hrs per day for 5 days) of direct exposure therapy informed by Kurtz’s PCIT-SM model to shape nonverbal responding into verbal responding. AC focuses heavily on verbalizing in the school setting and generalizing across school staff. Parents are provided with parent training separately in order to maximize the time we have with the students in the school setting\, verbally responding to staff without relying on their parents’ presence. This increases the child’s confidence in themselves and less dependence on their parents. Campers’ educators are encouraged to attend the Parent & Teacher Training that occurs on 7/27/2024 (and which is recorded for those who can’t attend) so that the child’s home and school environment can learn the PCIT-SM prompting skills and learn how to reduce enabling in an effective way to maximize treatment carry over into the school setting. Parent training also takes place during camp week on 7/29-8/01 from 12pm-1pm and on 8/02 1pm-2pm. These sessions are also recorded for parents who are unable to attend. The child’s teacher\, school social worker\, speech pathologist\, or anyone else from the child’s team is invited to come observe the skills in action during camp week to help facilitate their learning. Treating the child is not enough – we aim to train parents and educators\, too. \n\n\n\nWe rent out an actual school and use actual classrooms for this school simulation\, and the experience is further enhanced by other camps occurring in the same school\, really maximizing the opportunity to generalize speaking across adults\, peers\, places\, and activities.  \n\n\n\nIn the afternoons\, we load a school bus to field trip events which exposes children to talking to the bus driver\, to community members at our field trips\, and to community peers\, providing opportunities for generalizing speaking outside the school setting as well. Peer-to-peer interaction and social skills are also addressed in the field trip activities. \n\n\n\nTreating the child alone is not enough; treating the child’s ecosystem maximizes treatment effect.
