Busman and Catanzaro will talk about testing and thedifferences between psycho educational testing and neuropsychologicaltesting. They will discuss some of the reasons that testing is pursued and some of the barriers when considering testing for children with a diagnosis of selective mutism. They will offer tips and strategies that caregivers can use when fading in evaluators and also when advocating for evaluators withexperience testing children with SM. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives1) Describe the differences between testing completed by the school districtand neuropsychological testing2) Name two strategies to use during a fade in with an evaluator3) Discuss limitations of testing when using only nonverbal measures \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\nRachel Busman\, PsyD\, ABPP \n\n\n\nDr. Rachel Busman is a clinical psychologist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders in children and adolescents. She is the Senior Director of the Child & Adolescent Anxiety & Related Disorders Program at Cognitive Behavioral Consultants (CBC)\, where she runs Voices Rising\, an intensive group-based program for children with SM. Prior to joining CBC\, she ran Brave Buddies\, an internationally recognized SM program at the Child Mind Institute. She has extensive experience providing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to children\, teenagers\, and young adults struggling with psychiatric disorders\, school difficulties\, and behavioral problems. Dr. Busman is certified in Parent Child Interaction Therapy for SM (PCIT-SM) and is an interagency trainer. She is the past president of the SMA and continues to actively serve on the board. \n\n\n\nBrooke Catanzaro\, PsyD \n\n\n\nDr Catanzaro is an Associate Neuropsychologist at Cognitive and Behavioral Consultants. She has worked with a range of individuals including those with a variety of neurodevelopmental concerns\, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)\, autism spectrum disorder\, language-based learning challenges\, learning disabilities\, and social/emotional difficulties.
