Annual Appeal for Donations

Dear Friend,

Imagine pushing your two-year-old through the grocery store when you see a friend. When asked his name, your child puts his head down and avoids eye contact. Your friend replies, “How cute, he’s so shy.”

Imagine dropping your child off at preschool every morning and having her scream and hold on to you…every day…for the entire school year.

Imagine helping out in your child’s classroom and having her whisper something to you across the table… another child says, “I didn’t know she could talk.”

For parents of 7 out of every 1000 children, this is more than imagination; this is reality. It is a small glimpse of what some families experience when they have a child with Selective Mutism.

SMG is frequently the first resource families and professionals turn to when they encounter a child with Selective Mutism.

SMG is the nation's premier resource for information on SM. We provide a network of professionals, families and affected individuals across the world who understand the struggle of living in silence.

In the past year, SMG has welcomed over 500 members and more than 40 professional members into the organization. Our new website has reached over 10 million individuals in over 131 countries. Our vital mission to increase SM awareness is well on its way. Our Board of Directors and volunteers across the country work tirelessly to bring the SM community the services and resources that parents and treating professionals depend upon to assist in making important therapeutic decisions. However, to continue to disseminate accurate, up-to-date information about SM, we rely on generous donations from individuals like you.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 with this annual appeal. Please remember your tax-deductible gift to our Annual Appeal by December 31st will benefit all those who look for help on the SMG website. Donations can also be made online at www.selectivemutism.org/ways-to-give.

In these difficult economic times, we urge you to consider the largest gift you can, but we sincerely say that no gift is too small, and that all gifts are greatly appreciated.

Warmest regards,
