Ruth M. Anan, PhD, BCBA
Licensed Psychologist & Board Certified Behavior Analyst Director, Early Childhood Program
Since 1998, Dr. Anan has served as the Director of the Early Childhood Program at William Beaumont Hospital’s Center for Human Development. Dr. Anan is both a Michigan Licensed Psychologist and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
Dr. Anan specializes in the treatment of children with selective mutism, utilizing evidence-based techniques to gradually facilitate children’s successful verbal participation in school and other community settings. In addition to individual therapy, Dr. Anan offers a unique group treatment model for children and their parents. While Dr. Anan’s experienced co-therapists provide structured activities designed to advance children’s speaking skills with their peers, Dr. Anan meets with parents, helping them learn effective strategies to help their children. Frequent “field trips” give everyone a chance to practice speaking (and helping) in settings such as ice cream parlors, pet shops, and toy stores.
Dr. Anan serves on the Selective Mutism Group Board of Directors. She has been invited by school administrators and conference organizers to speak on this topic and is the first author of a book chapter on the treatment of children with selective mutism.
