Anna Simpson, Ph.D.
Dr. Anna Simpson (Annie) is a registered psychologist who specializes in the assessment and treatment of emotional, behavioural, and learning concerns in children and adolescents ages 0 – 16. More specifically, Dr. Simpson has experience with the following difficulties: Selective Mutism, Separation Anxiety, Specific Phobias, Panic, Social Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety (i.e., worry), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Trichotillomania, Noncompliance and tantrums, Parenting Challenges, Sleep in infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, Depression, Social difficulties, Learning difficulties and ADHD.
Dr. Simpson uses evidenced based (scientifically supported) techniques when addressing these concerns, including cognitive behavioural therapy and behavioural interventions. By working with both children and their parents, she aims to provide families with skills that will help create long lasting changes and will be transferable to other concerns in the future. She works both in individual and group formats.
Dr. Simpson received a combined PhD in School and Clinical Child psychology at the University of Toronto. Under the supervision of Dr. Katharina Manassis (Sick Kids), Dr. Simpson examined a cognitive behavioural prevention program for mood and anxiety disorders in school age children. During her PhD, Dr. Simpson completed training at the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Clinic in Child Psychiatry at CAMH. Her pre-doctoral internship was in Child and Youth Mental Health in Victoria/Saanich BC. Here, she completed major rotations focusing on early and school-aged children. As well, Dr. Simpson gained additional experiences in pediatric psychology at Victoria General Hospital.
In addition to her private practice at the North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic, Dr. Simpson is the psychologist on the infant psychiatry team (0-6 years of age) at BC Children’s Hospital.
