Dr. Boggs will present current diagnostic and treatment considerations for selective mutism and related anxiety conditions such as social phobia. Included will be treatment strategies using a team-based, anxiety reduction approach illustrated with case examples. Workshop activities will focus on helping participants understand both the subjective experience of socially anxious patients and the objective role of the clinician who assists them. It is expected that after completing this workshop, attendees will have a better understanding of what to do when confronted with these often misunderstood anxiety conditions.
The workshop will be held at:
Los Angeles County Psychological Association (LACPA)
Conference Room
17277 Ventura Blvd., Suite 202
Encino, CA 91316
This workshop is geared toward school psychologists, but open to all.
Please RSVP to draudreyboggs@gmail.com.
About the Presenter
Audrey E. Boggs, Psy.D., is a graduate of the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, San Francisco. She served for three years on the Board of Directors for the national non-profit organization, Selective Mutism Group~Childhood Anxiety Network devoting much of her time to writing and reviewing the content on the organization’s website and any information distributed to its members and the public. Other activities have included leading support groups for parents in both northern and southern California locations and presenting on selective mutism and anxiety disorders at conferences throughout the U.S. Dr. Boggs researched and developed Selective Mutism Anxiety Reduction Therapy (S.M.A.R.T.) and has successfully treated children with selective mutism as young as preschoolers and as old as teens using her treatment protocol. The SMART approach has been sought by professionals and graduate students alike for both clinical practice and research purposes. Dr. Boggs’ interest in selective mutism and related anxiety disorders stems from a very intimate experience: she had selective mutism and social phobia as a child and began to overcome these conditions during adolescence.
