Selective Mutism: An Overview for SLPs

Live Web/Telephone Seminar

Selective Mutism (SM) is a social and communication anxiety disorder of childhood. With the prevalence rising to an estimated 1 in 143 children, it merits our attention. This program reviews the key characteristics, diagnostic criteria, and treatment methods identified in recent literature, focusing on children aged 2–8. The program also reviews co-morbid disorders commonly associated with SM and explores the make-up of the interdisciplinary team that best supports a child with the diagnosis. The SLP's role in assessing and treating children with SM is emphasized.

Registration Deadline: October 26, 2009.
