Dear Parents of Children with Selective Mutism:
Dr. Joffe will be offering a meeting to discuss the adjustment for the new school year for your children with Selective Mutism. In the middle of getting your supply lists, shopping for school clothes (and uniforms), and making a list for lunch and for snacks to take to school, parents also need to prepare for helping their children face the unknown, and the new school year with the most positive and calm approach. There are some steps that parents, educators, and related professionals can take in order to help children with Selective Mutism.
We had a successful meeting in preparation to school, and we are happy to report that due to the "preventive" measures that parents, teachers, and the clinical team planned for some children, their school year started with much success, with children feeling socially more comfortable at school. Some of the strategies that were discussed in our last meeting were applied to a few situations, and with good results. Thank you, parents, teachers, and educational staff of the schools we worked with during the preparation week before school started!
Now it's time to talk about the first month of adjustment to school, and to other settings where your child with Selective Mutism may be going to, such as dance class, soccer, or other extra-curricular activities. This will be the topic of our next meeting, and of course, we will also talk about school-related topics that area of interest of parents as well. Please, call the office to enroll for this meeting as space is very limited.
