About this Expert Chat Session

The end of the school year for a child who has selective mutism necessitates parent and teacher planning to ensure that the child is comfortable with end-of-the-year events such as parties, plays, shows, and graduation. Other end-of-the-year concerns include planning for the summer and the next school year. Dr. Vera Joffe, licensed psychologist (FL, NY), author, and Board Member for the Selective Mutism Group, will discuss these issues with parents, teachers, and professionals as part of this Expert Chat. Dr. Joffe is also open to questions from the participants regarding any aspect of Selective Mutism since this will be the first Expert Chat Meeting of the year. Do not hesitate to send questions in advance to Dr. Joffe at ConnectionsCoordinator@selectivemutism.org, or to Dr. Joffe directly. Your questions will help us program and offer more Expert Chat Meetings to address your questions and concerns.

Note: The goal of the Expert Chat Meetings is to help parents of children with S.M., people with S.M., their families, professionals, and others interested in the topic to ask general questions that will benefit others in the Chat as well. It is important to know that no specific clinical answer will be provided to parents about their specific child during the Chat Meetings as it is not ethical to provide psychological service or advice without much information about a child and/or patient, and without having a therapeutic relationship. We hope, however, that with the information you receive during the Expert Chats and with the written materials and references provided in this website, that you will be able to find professionals in your area when you choose to seek professional services for diagnosis, treatment, and consultation for your specific child.
