Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum's Selective Mutism Conference

Theme: BEYOND THE BASICS

Focus on Treatment and School-based Accommodations/interventions

Selective Mutism is NOT rare, yet few understand. Children/Tenns are often overlooked, misdiagnosed or symptoms are misinterpreted.

As a result, those affected by SM suffer in silence as the world goes on around them. They suffer from a social and emotional standpoint and some have difficulty in school.

As children age, 'mute' behavior becomes increasingly more conditioned causing greater social isolation and avoidance.

Truth is, there is NO reason for a child or teen to remain socially isolated and/or MUTE and minimally communicative.
