The Brave Buddies Booster is a one-day intensive treatment program designed to prepare children with selective mutism (SM) for school and other social situations. Using a simulated classroom, the program offers ample opportunity for the positive practice of "brave talking," or verbal participation.
The Brave Buddies Booster day is modeled after a typical school day, including morning meetings, activity centers, meals, and field trips to the library, the park, and even the ice cream store. Prior to the program start date, incoming children attend sessions to build a trusting relationship with a staff member who will provide one-on-one coaching and support during the Brave Buddies experience. Other children will be gradually brought in to prepare them for talking in front of and to their peers. Brave Buddies has demonstrated success in helping children with SM.
